September 21, 2005

Hey everyone. It's Wednesday night. I had a late meeting so I decided to practice late, hence the evening blog entry..taking a practice break. This week has been fun. Monday and Tuesday was brass juries so I didn't do much else other than listen to all the brass students here (around 70). Today we had another meeting with Rayavadee about the wedding. I think it went well but we'll see what they offer. We're in negotiations right now. It's kind of fun plus, Dave I are getting good and this whole negotiating business...something new for both of us.

Nothing really exciting to write about. My friend Vicky is coming on Friday. I can't wait to hang out with a girl! I have been only hanging out with Dave, which is fun but I know how important girlfriends are! I need to start branching out and meeting my own friends and I know Dave wants to do the same...it's just more difficult being in a new country. I know it'd be hard in any new place, but I think it's different when you're in a country where you don't speak the language. My shyness comes out when I can't communicate in English. But I'm working on that. Dave and I started Thai lessons with a couple of students here. It's a joint Thai/English learning thing and it's working really well so far.

Good morning.  It's Tuesday here and it's our last week of school for the semester.  Next week is juries and the week after is finals.  Crazy!

This weekend was fun.  It hit us that we would not be able to live like this if we were in the states.  It's pretty amazing. We went into Bangkok for food on Saturday for Lonely Planet's proclaimed best Mexican restaurant at the Rembrandt hotel..called Senor Pico's.  We were a bit skeptical but the food was pretty good.  I mean, it was sort of texmex/deinitely Thai style (thai peppers next to the jalapeno's) but the guac was great and enchiladas and tacos I had were good! The best part was there was a live Cuban band playing..awesome.  It was exciting to hear Spanish again and Dave and I both felt like we were at home for a minute.

Then on Sunday we went into Bangkok again for food.  (I told you we wouldn't be living like this if we lived in the states). We took our friends out to a brunch at the Sheraton.  I'm not a fan of the buffet at all but this was good food.  A whole row of fish, lox, chilled oysters, and anything else you can eat in a half-shell...  A whole table of cheese (yeah, I spent most of my time here)...A place to order pizza, soup, pasta....A whole row of thai curries and rice..yummy...A table full of juices that can be turned into margaritas (Dave had a watermelon margarita that he loved but I thought was soo gross)....And the best part...desserts!  They had a choclate fountain! YUMMY.  You could dip bannanas and marshmellows in it.  ahhh..soo good!  We ate so much that we didn't eat anything else all day.

We're getting closer on wedding stuff...we'll hopefully have a contract by October 1st.  Then we will be official.  That'll be sweet.  YAY!

September 8, 2005

Wow! It feels like it's been a while since I've written here...with good reason though. Dave and I got back from Krabi on Monday morning and went straight to work and haven't left since.hahah. Not really but it feels like it. I'm hosting horn camp this week. It's been fun. All my kids get here at 7am and we do horn yoga(don't ask) and warm-up together. I'm trying to encourage good posture and breathing. Anyway, it's been sweet but we've been working on SAYOWE so we haven't been home before 9pm this week. Not complaining at all though. I'm having a blast.

So Krabi was incredible. INCREDIBLE, I say. It was fantastic. Unreal. Can't wait to bring people to the wedding. We found the most awesome place ever!! We were sad to leave!! We have a few weeks vacation of in October so maybe we'll go back but I want to see Phuket and Ko Sumai(sp?-the one from Meet the Parents) even though they're more developed than Krabi. We put up some of the pics we took from last week. Ahh..the pictures don't even do the place justice.

The first night we were in Krabi we stayed at a hotel that's under construction for rennovations. It's literally closed so we were the only guests but we had 2 security guards. Construction in Thailand is funny. I think they work 24 hours and have 2 shifts and they all sleep at the construction site by building make-shift tin shacks. So we were going to bed and Dave thought he heard something outside but I thought it was just his feet on the hardwood floor. So we're going to sleep and I heard something too. I looked out on our LIT porch and there was a shirtless dude!!! AHHHHH! I freaked out. I was in my nightgown and I ran outside and yelled at him to go away in so many not-so-nice words and to not come back!! haha..that got security's attention and they came down and chased the peeping tom away!! hahaha.

Our last night was spent at Sunrise Toprical. Located next to Rayavadee (where we want the wedding) and a 10 minute walk to Phra Nang Beach (beautiful crystal clear water). So Dave and I walked over there and were enjoying the sunset and before we realized it, the sun was gone. We thought we should head back to Sunrise after a stray dog was following us and kind of freaking us out a bit. So we head down the narrow walkway that is between Rayavadee resort and a cliff. Literally. The path kind of goes in and out of caves and with no light on, we were getting nervous. I was laughing but Dave was getting scared. I thought it was better without a flashlight so we couldn't see bats or anything but I think Dave would have preferred some light. With the dog following us too, that walk felt really long. There was also a pack of 18 wild monkeys on the fence which didn't make matters better. hahah. We made it and with no bat or monkey attacks so it's all good. hahaha

Well, who knows what this weekend holds in store for the Beebe Hart's. hahaha. I'll write soon. Take care.
