December 14, 2005

I'm in a bloggy mood tonight. A great thing happened last week. My parents bought us an induction cooker...a crazy good hot plate. It cooks sooo fast. It uses electromagnetism to cook and it's amazing! Seriously. Our lives have changed for the better becuase of it. We cooked potatoes..that's right..po-ta-toes in like 10 minutes last night. It feels like we have a real kitchen now...dang. We're living the life.

So stray dogs are huge here. Not in size, but in quantity. They're all over campus and as sorry as I feel for them..they're not cute little kitties. They roam around in packs and one has even chased dave on his bike! Today I was riding home from work, minding my own beeswax and a dog starts barking and chasing after the car in front of me. I was a little nervous but I think the dogs pee on the tires (while they're parked at school all day) and then another dog will smell that and freak out and run after the smell! Kinda weird but pretty funny.

Dave's parents arrive in about 12 hours! We're so excited to see them. We'll be joining them at the Sheraton for a few nights, which is going to be THE nicest thing that has happened to us here. It's amazing how a little Sheraton action can make you feel at home. Seriously, tourists see the Sukhumvit side of Bangkok but we ain't tourists. So when we do experience the finer side of Bangkok it's really bizzare. 1) We couldn't afford to live like the tourists and 2) it's a serious culture shock. It's weird to be in Southeast Asia but see a jazz singer from L.A. or a black hip-hop group performing in a hotel, and then you go outside and it's poverty and pollution. It's just a strange that I can't describe. It happens in movie theatres too. Seeing a movie in English makes you feel like you're at home...but then the movie ends and reality hits that you're 15 hours ahead of the ones you love. Soooo weird. But I still love it. HA!! Ok..gotta finish practicing.....

December 9, 2005

Good morning. It's Friday and my parents have been here visiting all week. So fun! We've mostly been christmas shopping and wedding dress shopping. Even more fun! Not much is new but I thought I'd update my blog since it's been a while.

We still have no wedding contract, which is so annoying but now we're hearing December 23rd. If they mess this up we don't know what to do. I'm done dealing with them..that's for sure. I've heard of other people gettting jacked from wedding places. What's up with that? I don't understand the logic. I think when they know they have your business is when they start messing with things. Luckily, we haven't signed anything, and at least we know what we're getting involved with. This situation makes me want to be a wedding site vendor and I'd be super nice and have a perfect contract for everyone...hahha..right.

We just found out we have a holiday break over Christmas. How weird. Apparently there are some athletic games at our campus so we have from December 20-January3rd off!! I can't believe it!! We have to make up for it at the end of the year, which is weirder but it'll be sweet to have a holiday. We're making travel plans..SCORE!

I've completely lost faith in cab drivers here. Dave and I were coming home from my parents hotel..we've been doing it all week so we know aprox. what it should cost and how long. Usually it's 30km, 200 baht (5 USD) and about 45 minutes. Last night..50km, 300 baht and over an hour. How annoying. I can't even handle it. Seriously..I get so pissed. I should probably get over it and let it go but it infuriates me for some reason. Maybe becuase I'm so powerless in the situation...ok enough analyzing.

I'll try to be better about blogging. Dave's parents are arriving next week so I'll be in the same position as this week, but I found a few minutes to write today...mostly I'm procrastinating practicing.
